Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— for we are members of his body. “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
Cake Decorating Post:
I made this cake for a couple in our church who are celebrating 60 years of marriage. That is a rarity in our day. I am so proud of them for being committed to their marriage for life. This couple have served the Lord for many years in our church. Their family was a blessing to me when I took the cake to the church and saw this family of children and grandchildren and relatives as well as church family honoring the two of them and their marriage.
“For better or for worse, until death do them part.” It is so good to see people who believe and practice it.
My husband and I will be married fifty years this December. There is a saying that goes something like this, “I love him more today than I did yesterday but not half as much as I will tomorrow.” Our love grows daily. I am so thankful for the gift of marriage and will cherish the treasure of my lifetime mate.
What you need to make cake:
9 cake mixes (whatever flavors you desire)
27 eggs
3 cups of oil
Water
For the frosting you will need:
6 cups of margarine or butter
6 cups of Crisco
24 cups of powered sugar
1 2/3 cups of evaporated milk
12 teaspoons of vanilla
Make as directed:
2 8″ layers (I made the 8″ layers vanilla)
2 12″ layers (I made the 12″ layers chocolate)
2 16″ layers (I made the 16″ layers vanilla)
Put equal parts of the batter in each pan.
Bake at 350 until golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool for approximately five minutes in pans.
Next, cut off the raised top of the cake to level it.
Cool in pan for approximately 10 minutes and then Level the top of the cake using the top of pan as your guide. Cool completely
While the cake is cooling, make your frosting. I have included my recipe, but you can use whatever you choose. My frosting recipe is as follows:
4 cups powdered sugar
2 sticks margarine
1 cup of Crisco
2 teaspoons of vanilla
1/3 cup evaporated milk
Beat at high speed with mixer for approximately 10 minutes.
Next I begin to assemble the cake. Place the cut side of your cake layer down on your cake dish.
Spread frosting on top of that layer. Then put the next layer on top of it, cut side down, and seal the cake with frosting, until you are ready to do the design work.
After I got each cake frosted and decorated with white frosting, I began making the pink and purple roses to go on the cake. The frosting I make is butter cream and it never gets hard, so I put the flowers in the freezer and add them to the cake from the freezer one at a time frozen.
Then I start assembling the flowers for the top of the cake and the flowers to go on the divider plates.
The hearts below will go on the top bottom cakes.
The solid hearts will go on the center cake.
I am getting ready to take the cake to the church to do the final assembly work.
The wooden board on the table with the green mat is a carrying board for the bottom cake. This cake takes two of us to carry. We use the carrying board so we do not get our fingers in the cake putting it in or taking it out of the vehicle.
The post you see in the bottom layer are to prevent the weight of the upper cakes from crushing the bottom layer. I have 9 post in this 18″ cake.
Next I place the 14″ divider plate on top of the 18″ round bottom cake.
I transported each of these layers to the church unstacked.
Once I got to the church I began stacking the layers with the divider plates and posts and the flower arrangements between them.
Once I had the cake stacked, I began to put the silver hearts on the bottom layer and worked myself to the top layer. (I put them on with a pair of tweezers.)
Then I began to work of the top of the cake flower arrangement.
The last thing I put on the top was the “60” for the number of years they had been married.
This cake serves 150 people.
When I started working on this post I realized we didn’t have a picture of the cake finished with the solid hearts on the center cake. If I can get one from the family I will post it at a later time. There must have been a distraction on the part of the photographer at that time.
I hope you like it. I know they did, which was most important. God has blessed them with 60 years of marriage. My desire for them, is that God will give them many more years together.
Blessings,
