Scripture to Live By:
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6
I hope each of you had a safe weekend from the winter storm. We had a ice storm here but we are safe and we still have our power. A few tree limbs are down but all and all we came through it okay. We are taking the advice of the weather man, which is if it is not an emergency stay at home. So we are nuzzled down for the night and cozy.
I saw this recipe in a Pillsbury Cookbook. It is super easy to make and can be made in any flavor you can find the candy canes in. The ones I have made are cherry. If you would like to make them here is what you will need:
1 package of white candy melts
2 packages of miniature candy canes ( the two boxes will make 25 candy cane bark hearts if each package has 30 canes in them. It takes 2 miniature canes for each heart plus a few of the canes broken up to put in the center of heart.)
Approximately 5 of the canes broken up for the pieces to garnish bark with.
Instructions: Remove papers from candy canes. Crush up approximately 5 of the canes to garnish the Candy Cane Bark Hearts with.
Cover the inside of cookie sheet with wax paper as seen below.
Put two candy canes together to make a heart. (Crooks together at the top.)
Melt candy melts in the microwave oven according to the directions on the package.
Either spoon or pipe candy melt (using a pastry bag and writing tip) in the inside of the heart as seen below.
Then sprinkle some of the crushed candy cane onto the candy melt while it is still soft. You need to work quickly so the candy melt does not harden in the tube or on the hearts before you put your crushed candy bits on the hearts.
Let harden about ten minutes before removing from wax paper to store or serve.
Store in an airtight container.
I think these are so festive. They will certainly brighten up any cookie display.
They are good in peppermint or any other flavor.
Why not make some and share with friends or give them as a gift?
Blessings,
