Scripture to Live By:
Hebrews 12:1-4 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right had of the throne of God.
1 Peter 2:21-24 For to this you are were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: Who committed no sin, nor was deceit found in His mouth”; who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously; who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness by whose stripes you were healed.
2 Corinthians 12:9 And He said unto me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Philippians 3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Put on those running shoes to run the race of life to the finish line. Keeping our eyes focused on Jesus and following in His footsteps. What an example Jesus is in running the race of life!
Recipe Post:
My grandson was visiting me last month and he told me that he wanted some Mexican Goulash for his birthday and some Calico Beans. I told him that the next time I came to Ohio I would make them for him. No, it was not on his birthday, but I am here in Ohio, so I am keeping my promise. MY daughter, that we are staying with invited my grandson and his family over to spend the day, so I made him a Crock Pot of Mexican Goulash and a Crock Pot of Calico Beans. I doubled my recipes so there would be enough for him to take some home with him to enjoy later. He was thrilled.
I, also, made some Pork Barbecue to go with the Calico Beans. My daughters told me it was the best they have even eaten, they sure made my day.
We so enjoy getting together as a family. The cousins look forward to these times, as much as the adults.
If you would like to make the Calico Beans the following is what you will need:
2 cans of pork and beans
1 can of kidney beans
1 can of butter beans
1 can of great northern
1 pound of sausage (cooked and crumbled)
Mix the following in a large bowl:
1/2 cup of ketchup
3/4 cup of brown sugar
1/4 cup of vinegar
1/2 cup of fresh onions chopped or 1/4 cup of dried chopped onions
1 teaspoon of mustard
1 teaspoon of minced garlic
Crumble the sausage and add to the mixture.
Drain the liquid from all the beans and add them to the mixture. Mix well.
Put in crock pot and cook on high for a couple of hours.
(You can bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 1 hour.)
Enjoy them alone in a bowl or on a plate with a complete meal.
We enjoy them with Pork Barbecue and Cole Slaw.
Yummy!
When a teenager ask for Calico Beans for his birthday gift you know they must be good.
Why not give them a try?
Blessings,
