Scripture to Live By:
Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
Ephesians 5:15-17
Cake Decorating Post:
There is a precious little girl that is in our Nursery Toddler class and she loves to play on the “Sit and Spin”. It makes me dizzy just watching her. When I was asked to make her third birthday cake and was told that she likes almost every thing. I went in search of something that would suit her. When I saw this little “Dizzy Doo” doll, I thought, ‘that is her’. She sometimes wears her hair in pony tails and she has blond hair. The name, “Dizzy Doo” fits her to a tee. When she sits and spins she becomes dizzy and she is always on the go doing something. One of the things she does continually is sings. She is such a precious little girl. She wins the heart of all who come in contact with her. I wanted her cake to be special to her. When she saw it today, her eyes lite up and she was so excited. When the cake is gone she will have the Dizzy Doll to play with. The doll came with two outfits of clothing, a purse, brush and mirror set and a puppy. She will enjoying changing her dolls clothes and pretending to be a mama.
This cake was very simple to make and anyone can do it. Just follow the directions below. This cake feeds fifty people. You could make it much smaller but still use the decorating tips.
Here is what you will need.
3 cake mixes (2 yellow and 1 chocolate)
9 eggs
2/3 cup of oil for the 2 yellow cakes mixes and 1/2 cup of oil for the chocolate cake mix.
Grease pan with canned Crisco and then coat with flour.
Mix yellow cake mixes in bow with six eggs and 2/3 cup of oil.
Mix with mixer until smooth and fluffy.
Pour 2/3rds of the batter into one half of pan.
(I put a knife under the opposite end of pan to tilt the pan so the batter will not run to that end of the pan.)
Mix the chocolate cake mix up into the yellow cake mix left in the bowl until smooth and fluffy. Then pour the chocolate into the other end of the pan. (Remove knife out from under the pan so the batter will balance out in the pan as seen below.)
Bake for approximately 30 minutes or until the cake springs back when touched in the center and is pulling away from the sides of the pan. Remove from the oven and let cool for approximately 15-30 minutes.
Trim the top of the cake, using the rim of the cake as your guide. This is to make the top of the cake flat.
I put the cake top in a separate dish and use to make a different desert.
Next flip the cake with the leveled side down on your serving dish, as seen below.
Cool completely before frosting.
Frosting recipe for this size of cake:
2 cups of Crisco
2 cups of margarine
8 cups of powdered sugar
4 teaspoons vanilla
2/3 cups of evaporated milk
Mix in mixing bowl with a spoon before you mix it on high with mixer for 5-10 minutes.
(by mixing with spoon you will keep powered sugar from going out of the bowl when you turn on the mixer.)
I divide my frosting into portion. I set aside a greater amount to frost the top and sides with green frosting.
I use Wilton paste for coloring. for this shade of green I use approximately 1/2 teaspoon of paste.
Mix coloring into frosting thoroughly.
I put a smaller portion of frosting, in a bowl, to color pink, to do the borders on the cake and to make pink flowers.
Next I used a portion of frosting to make yellow flowers and to write the greeting on the cake.
I purchased a Dizzy Doo Doll kit to go on the cake.
I also purchased some sweet candy dots and used them for the center of each flowers
Place them on the cake as seen below.
Place child’s age number on cake.
The kit I purchase also had a dog and a little purse so I put them on the cake as well.
Hope you like it. I know this little three year girl did.
Blessings,
