God expects growth in His children just as we expect growth in our garden. God tells us how we can grow in our spiritual lives. He says, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15
We grow as we study God’s Word and put it into practice daily. No one enjoys stunted growth, whether it is in plants or in our lives spiritually. There are remendies for both. See what we did with our garden when the critters were stunting its growth.
Gardening Post:
Some have asked if I was going to update them on my raised garden beds. Well, yes I am, and it is quite a story. When we showed you our raised garden we had just planted them.

A couple of days later, my husband was ready to show the neighbor our raised gardens.
Before he showed them he decided to take a look at them. What he saw was disheartening. Five of our tomato plants had the tops removed. My husband said that the deer had eaten them.
Some one told us, if we would plant some Marigolds around the garden, that they would keep the deer away because the deer didn’t like the smell of them. Someone else told him to put fish line around the garden. They said the deer would not be able to see it but when they touch it it would startle them and they would stay away from it. Let me just say, the marigolds did not work for us, because the deer just reached over them to eat the tomato plant.
We decided to buy fencing and put it around it. We bought 6 – 8ft, 2×4 inch boards for each bed and sawed them off to 6 feet. We bought a roll of fencing to go around the beds.
We put a 2 x 4 x 6 foot board at each corner of the two beds and one in the middle of each outside bed.
After we got all the posts set, we began stretching and stapling the fencing to the post and the beds.
After the fencing was stretched and stapled all the way around the beds, we cut the fencing and left a space to put a door, to get into the beds yet keeping all the critters out of them.
The door is 2 feet wide by five feet high, the height of the fencing.
The fencing was rolled out on the ground and cut to the size of the door. Then the fencing was attached to the door frame. A couple of board, that were 24 inches long, were added to stabilize the door .
After it was made, we attached it to the bed with door hinges.
We also put two screen door latches on it to make sure it stays closed.
Since putting the fence around it we have not had any problem with critters eating our plants.
The plants are growing well, as you can see in the picture below.
We even have tomatoes and peppers coming on and the squash and beans are blooming.
We are so glad that we made these raised beds. We have planted and watered and are seeing the growth. We are looking forward to reaping the harvest.

Not only do we want to take care of our garden so it continues to grow by our watering and fertilizing it, but we desire to take care of our spiritual growth by studying and applying God’s Word to our daily lives.

You are so welcome. It has certainly helped ours. It is growing great and no critters and there are a lot of critters at our house. Deer, grounhogs, rabbits and etc. Hope you will try the fencing and you will be done with those problems. We made ours high so the deer would not jump it. Blessings, Jo-Ann
Great idea and well executed. My parents always had deer in their garden too. I know that hair clippings (mom buzzed dads hair) also keep the deer away.

It's fence time at my house too. I put in a big bed of raspberries and the deer ate the plants to the ground. They also ate a new apple tree all the way back to the main stock. I used to think they were cute but now, it's war.
So sorry to hear about the deer eating your raspberries, they have not eaten ours "yet". I hope the do not. We are away right now so I don't know if I will have any by the time we get home or not. Thank you for letting me know they like rasberries as well.

Clearly this is what I need. Rabbits and deer are in abundance where I live; therefore, I've resulted to container gardening until I can build something like what you have.

Your gardens are looking wonderful and hopefully the fencing solves the deer problem. I love to see the deers, but they can wreak havoc with our plantings.

A more substantial fence is on our list for the garden next summer. Between the critters and the heat, this summer is turning out to be a bust. I would love it if you would share this on my linky party – Tout It Tuesday. http://www.claimingourspace.com/2012/07/tout-it-tuesday-15.html
We also put a fence around our garden last summer to keep out the deer. However, we found that turtles easily go through 4×4 fencing and they dearly love any type of melon and cucumbers! This year I think we'll try chicken wire so that WE can eat out produce.
