Scripture to Live By:
O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker.
Psalm 95:6
I was listening to a pastor today and he ask this question, “What is worship?” He said that worship is our response to what we value the most. To see what we value the most go down the trail of our life and see what devours our time. What we worship is what devours our time. He said that we are made to worship God all the time and that He is to remain on the throne of our hearts. The following verses tells us that He is worthy to be worshiped.
The earth is the Lord‘s, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.
Psalm 24:1,2
This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.
Isaiah 43:21
True Worship begins as a response to God’s Word. Worship is the number one response to God’s revelation.
The wise men journeyed a great distance to worship the new born KING and to bestow gifts to Him.
What gift can you give Him this Christmas? You can give Him your heart and your worship. Give to Him the worth that is due His holy name.
Recipe Post:
This recipe was given to me by a friend several years ago. I had eaten it at a gathering and just loved it. It is different from a fruit cake yet on the order of one as well. The orange slice candy mixed with the other ingredients makes it so good. My husband really likes it and so do I, but when I make it we cannot stop snacking on it. Hope you will try it and enjoy it as well.
Here is what you will need:
1 package of Orange slices (cut into small pieces)
2 cups pecans
1 8 ounce package of dates (pitted and cut into small pieces)
1 can angel coconut (4 ounces)
1 cup butter or margarine
1 1/2 cup sugar
4 eggs
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon soda
1/2 cup buttermilk
Spay pans with cooking spray. (I use the little loaf pans). You can bake in bread pan or angel food pan. If so, line with wax paper. Set aside.
Make your own buttermilk if you, don’t have it on hand, by adding 1/2 Tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice to your milk, and let it set for 5 minutes before adding to recipe.
Chop nuts, dates, orange slices and add coconut. Melt butter and pour over nut mixture.
In another bowl mix eggs and sugar, (mix flour and soda) then add along with the milk.
Then mix all the ingredients together. Mix well
Bake in a tube pan, angel food cake pan or in small loaf pans as seen below.
(I prefer the small loaf pans.) Spay each loaf tin with cooking spray.
Measure a 1/3 cup of batter and put in each loaf tin.
Add a pecan to the top of each loaf or leave plain
Bake at 300 degrees for one hour or until you can stick a toothpick in the center of cake and it comes out clean. If you are using a tube pan or an angel food pan, you will need to cook longer. Bake for one 1/2 hours to 2 hours or until you can stick a toothpick in the center of your cake and it comes out clean.
Remove from pans and let cool fully
If you are not going to use all the loaves, wrap them in Saran wrap and store in freezer in freezer bags.
Serve sliced on serving trays. Decorate with orange slices.
Christmas is just a few days away and I am so looking forward to spending time with my precious family. I am so thankful we have each other and God is so precious to us. We are so thankful for the salvation we have through our Lord Jesus Christ. I can rejoice that over 2000 years ago, in the fullness of time God sent forth His son to be the Savior of the world. He is the hope of the world today as well.
When I look around and see all the turmoil going on in our world and the evil that causes such great pain, especially the evil that took place in Newtown, Conn. at Sandy Hook School. My heart is so pained for those precious families and for the loss of their dear loved ones. In their pain and sorrow may God carry them moment by moment in the days ahead as only He can.
Hope each of you have a blessed Christmas.
