Scripture to Live By:
Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.
James 1:12-15
Recipe Post:
Would you like to eat Onion Rings with out the guilt of eating fried food. My husband and I really enjoy onion rings, but we are not into frying them because of the fat content. So we decided to make our own without the frying oil. Here is what we did. I bought some Panko to bread the onions. Panko gives them the crunchy texture. Baking makes them much healthier than frying in oil. I saw this on Rachael Ray’s show. She suggested baking the onion rings instead of frying them.
Here is what you will need:
1 bag of whole wheat Panko
1 cup or more of buttermilk (according to how many onions you use.
1-2 large onion
Olive Oil spray
Salt as desired
Pour buttermilk and panko in bowls and set aside.
Line up mixtures in the way you will use it.(Onions, buttermilk dip and panko dip.)
You might want to use a smaller dish to add to the depth of the milk, so you don’t need as much milk.
Cut onion into slices and separate the slices into rings.
Dip rings into the buttermilk with tongs, then into the whole wheat Panko. (You could do this twice but I found the panko would come off when I re-dipped it.)
Put the onion rings on a baking sheet that has been spayed with cooking spray. Next spray onion rings with Olive Oil Cooking Spray. Then sprinkle them with salt.
Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.
Serve while hot with ketchup.
If you enjoy Onion Ring why deprive yourself. You can bake them and still have the crunch without the added fat.
They certainly are a healthy substitute without the guilt or added fat.
I certainly enjoyed them.
Blessings,
