Make Your Own Butter Mints

Scripture to Live By:

One of the ladies in the church is becoming a grandmother and the church ladies are giving her daughter-in-law a baby shower.  I told her I would furnish the nuts and mints for the shower.  I went to buy the mints that I used to buy in bulk for the shower and they were no longer available,  So I thought I would try to make them myself and see if they turned out okay.  Her shower colors are pink and black, but for now I am making the yellow, blue and pink.  I will need enought mints to serve 60 ladies.  

Here is how I made them.

Recipe Post:

1 stick of butter

6 cups of powdered sugar

2 Tablespoons of milk

1 teaspoon of peppermint flavoring

Wilton paste coloring (yellow, rose, and blue)

Blend butter and powdered sugar until crumbly.  Add milk and peppermint flavoring and beat until dough thickens and becomes play dough consistency. 

 Divide the dough into as many colors of mints you desire.  I chose to make them in blue, yellow and pink.  

I made into 3 balls and added 1/2 teaspoon of Wilton coloring to each ball.  

Put ball of dough back in mixing bowl with the 1/2 teaspoon of coloring and blend until the coloring has mixed thoroughly. 

Wash mixing bowl and beater between coloring each ball.  

Divide each colors into four balls. Divide each of the four into two balls. 

(Total of 8 balls  or more if your balls of dough were not equally divided)

Tape a piece of parchment paper sprinkled with powdered sugar. 

(My parchment paper length was approximately 30 inches long.) 

I rolled each ball with my hands to make my logs.   

Roll out into logs of approximately 1/2 inch diameter and about 10 – 12 inches in length.  

Using a pizza cutter, cut into approximately 1/2 inch slices.  

Let dry for several hours before you separate into pieces so it is easier to handle.  

Let them dry for about 48 hours to harden thoroughly.  

I left my colors separate, but you could mix the colors.

I wanted to fancy up the glasses, so I added a ribbon to each glass.  

The mints turned out very nice.  I think they will be great for the shower.
