Scripture to Live By:
That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.
Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing[b] her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— for we are members of his body. “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. Ephesians 5:20-33
Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God. Titus 2:3-5
Cake Decorating Post:
A friend asked me to make her daughter’s wedding cake, so after much anticipation I agreed to do so. Here is the cake she choose. There is a lot of work that goes into a wedding cake, especially for me since I am not a professional cake decorator. I enjoy learning and making things to help others when they need my help. Sometimes I get concerned with doing a job that will be pleasing to the one I am doing it for, and in this case getting it to the church in the same condition it was when it left my house. For this particular cake the following is what you will need to purchase and the process it takes to make it.
What you will need:
8 cake mixes
2 2/3 cups of oil
11 2/3 cups of water
Here is how I made it and you can too.
First, grease and flour 3 octagon cake pans. (9 inch, 12 inch, and 15 inch)
15 inch cake
2 cake mix
2/3 cup oil
2 2/3 cup of water
Mix with mixer for 4 minutes.
Pour into 15 inch pan.
9 inch cake pan,mix the following ingredients:
1 cake mix
1/3 cup oil
1 1/3 cup water
Mix with mixer for 2 minutes.
Add 1/2 mix to 15 inch pan, and 1/2 mix to 9 inch pan.
Bake at 350 until golden brown, and the top is firm when patted. Remove from oven and let cool for approximately five minutes in pans.
Next, cut off the raised top of the cake to level it. Cool in pans another five minutes, then turn out of pans onto a cooling rack and cool completely.
While these cakes are cooling, mix up the ingredients for the 12 inch cake.
1 cake mix
1/3 cup of oil
1 1/3 cup of water and mix with mixer at medium speed for 2 minutes.
Pour the entire cake mixture into the 12 inch cake pan.Bake at 350 until golden brown, and the top is firm when patted. Remove from oven, and let cool for approximately five minutes in pans.
Next, cut off the raised top of the cake to level it. I put the tops in a 9X13 dish and save to use later
. Cool in pans another five minutes then turn out of pans onto a cooling rack, or the cake plate they will be on, and cool completely.
Repeat the above when the pans are ready to use again. You will end up with 6 layers.
While the cake is cooling, make your frosting. I have included my recipe, but you can use whatever you choose.
My frosting recipe is as follows:
4 cups powdered sugar
2 sticks margarine
1 cup of Crisco
2 teaspoons of vanilla
1/3 cup evaporated milk
Beat at high speed with mixer for approximately 10 minutes.
Next I begin to assemble the cake. Place the cut side of your cake layer down on your cake dish.
For this cake I used 7 recipes of the above frosting.
28 cups powdered sugar
14 sticks of margarine (in real warm weather I use more Crisco and less Margarine so that the frosting will be less likely to melt, I did this on this cake.)
7 cups of Crisco
14 teaspoons vanilla
2 1/3 cups of evaporated milk
This is the 12 inch layer so it will not have a plate under it but only a cardboard because it is going to fit directly on the 15 inch cake. Frost the top of this layer and then place the other 12 inch layer on top of it.
Do the same for the top and bottom layers.
Now you are ready to frost the outside of the layers. I begin with the bottom layer and work my way up the cake.
After I have all the cakes frosted I begin the detail work.
I put a ruffle around the bottom of the cake. Mark where the garland will go and put the decorative scallops around the bottom and using tweezers put on the edible black beads.
The corners are done using edible pearls.
This cake was a little unusual because the divider plate had to go underneath the frosting.
I had to decorate the cake plate to give the effect of the lace and bead work. The crystal pillars are 7 inches long and they will fit on top of this frosted plate.
Each bead is pot on with tweezers along the sides and most of the top of this layer.
This was a very tedious process. Each of the beads on the border was put on with tweezers as well.
The 2 layers are put together using 7 wooden dowel rods.
Six are placed at each corner and the seventh one is 8 inches long and it will go through both cakes.
With the plastic plate on the top of the middle cake I had to place the center dowel rod in the bottom cake and lower the middle cake down on it.
I decorated the top border of the bottom cake with artificial beads to give it a raised look.
I drew the lace work on the top layer first, with frosting, and then put the
edible pearls on the bottom border and up each edge of the octagon.
Now I was ready to add the black beads.
All three layers are complete, Now it is time to transport it to the church, which is approximately
5 miles from my house on a one lane road with lots of holes and bumps.
Hey we made it and just look at my hair do. Well not really. There was a pot of flowers right behind me on a shelf and it makes it look like I have a fancy hat on.
The bride wanted fall leaves on top of her cake and on the table.
Her cake top was a crystal square block with Mr and Mrs.
and their first names with the wedding date engraved on it.
But it is hard to see unless you look real close.
So very thankful the cake made it to the church in one piece.
My hearts desire is that this couples marriage will be all that God intends marriage to be by putting into practice the instructions He has given to husbands and wives in His Word. I wish them God’s best.
