Scripture To Live By:
I made up a plaque, and have it on my refrigerator, with these verses on self-control. I read it often to remind myself that I don’t have to give into my cravings.
I think I got it from Self – Confrontation by John C. Broger.
Self -control doesn’t yield to temptation
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Romans 6:12
Self-control does not give into desires.
So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. Galatians 5:16
Self-control does not participate in sin.
Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. Romans 6:13
Self-control does not indulge itself.
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31
Self-control does not satisfy itself.
Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Galatians 5:24
God’s Word is pertinent to every area of our lives and can certainly be effective when we apply it.
Cake Decorating Post:
What you will need:
This is to be a swirl cake. Instead of using swirl cake mixes, I use 2 yellow cake mixes and 1 devil food cake mix. It saves time for me to do this.
2 Yellow cake mixes
1 Devil Food cake mix
9 eggs
1 cup of oil
3 cups of water
12 x 18 inch pan
Mix 2 yellow cake mixes at one time according to the directions on the box.
While it is mixing grease and flour your cake pan.
Pour the mixture into your pan and spread out evenly.
Mix your Devil’s food cake mix according to the directions on the box.
Drizzle the mixture over the cake and swirl with a spatula, see pictures below.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
Remove from oven when cake is done and the top bounces back when touched gently.
Let cake cool for approximately 20 minutes. Take a knife and using the top of your pan as a guideline trim off any access cake to make the top of your cake flat, like the bottom will be. Let cool another 10 minutes or until you turn it onto the plate you are going to serve it on. (Don’t let it cool completely or it will stick to the
pan.) Once it is on your serving dish let it cool completely before frosting.
While cake is cooling or ahead of time prepare the template to draw the design on your cake.
Here is what I did to get the design. I traced the the picture from the book and enlarged it to the size I wanted using an enlarger. You could enlarge it on the computer and print it off.
My Frosting Recipe:
4 cups of powered sugar
2 sticks margarine
1 cup of Crisco
2 teaspoons of vanilla
1/3 cup evaporated milk
Beat at high speed with mixer for approximately 10 minutes.
For this cake I tripled it. (Any let over frosting, I use to decorate cupcakes later.)
Mix your ingredients with a spoon first, so powder sugar will not go all over the place when you start to beat it with a mixer. Then mix on high speed for approximately 10 minutes.
Frost the cake. (To make sure no crumbs get into your frosting, brush crumbs off the cake and then frost using a metal spatula. Make sure your spatula is on top of the frost pushing it as shown in picture above.
Complete frosting until you have desired smoothness.)
Next position boot template on desired spot and trace around it with a tooth pick
Cut out each section as shown below to be able to trace each section onto your cake accurately.
Lay the shoe part on the cake and trace around it with a toothpick.
Lay the top of the traced boot on the cake.
Using a tooth pick trace around the bottom of it
and the top as shown above.
By tracing around these two pieces you have your boot heel and the top of your boot.
Next make the colors of frosting you want your boot to be.
I chose yellow, light brown and dark brown.
I put the frosting in three bowls and added the paste food coloring with the tip of a knife
(adding only a small amount at a time) to get the shade of color I wanted. Mix it well.
Put couplet in the bag, then put the tip ,you will be using, on and then put the tip retainer on. Next put frosting in a pastry bag and roll the top down, or put a rubber band around the top of the frosting.
Use a #15 star tip for all the star tip work on your cake.
Outline the shoe part of the boot with the gold color.
Then fill the rest of it as seen below.
Fill in the top of boot with the darker brown.
Then fill in the heel and the sole of the shoe with the darker brown.
Add the designs on the boot with the gold and outline around each part of the
boot with the darker brown as shown in the picture using a # 6 tip.
Pipe on rope border.
Write your Birthday Greeting in the area beside the boot.(This is what the person that ask me to make it choose. She didn’t want any other decoration on it. Except a plastic cowboy hat leaning against it.)
This cake was shared by two great dads, that shared the same birthdays,
in the same family, so they had a party for them both.
It was a big hit with the lady that ask me to make it, for her husband and a brother-in-law. It was a surprise to the both of them and a delight to the wife who had the surprise party for them.
Perhaps you would like to make the man in your life, a Birthday Boot Cake to surprise him.
