Scripture to Live By:
Galatians 6:7-10
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
Home Decorating Post:
Our storage space is limited and I am always looking for places to store things. Some years back, I purchased some bed risers from a department store. They were plastic and they worked for a while, but then the bed frame cut through the plastic risers. The risers did not make the bed high enough to store much under the bed. I asked my husband if he would make me some out of wood. I knew the wood would be sturdier than the plastic. I wanted him to make them higher than the plastic ones so I could double my containers. I had some containers that I had purchased for storing wrapping paper, and gift ribbon, scotch tape and etc.
The containers were Rubbermaid wrapping paper containers, 34″ long, 16 1/2 ” wide and 6″ high with 2 trays to store various gift wrapping necessities in, but I use them for storing many different things.
I learned that these containers were just the right size to fit nicely under the bed. With the store bought risers, there was not enough room to double stack them, to give me twice the storage.
My husband made my Bed Risers out of 6 x 6″ piece of wood, 36″ long. He cut 4 of them 8” long.
You can make them what ever length you would like, but you want to make sure the bed spread will fit properly.
The picture above picture shows the blocks with the holes in them for the leg of the bed frame to fit in them. To find the center of the board you can draw a line from corner to corner as shown below.
Once the center is determined (where the lines cross),measure the bottom of bed frame leg to get the diameter for the size hole you are wanting to get so that the leg fits snug. Use a power drill to drill the hole. We put a metal washer in each hole, so the bed leg would not cut into the wood.
If you want to put wheels on your bed, you will need to make holes on the bottom of your block as well.
We also drilled a hole in the other end to put the rollers in as shown below. (But we decided that the bed didn’t seem as stable with them. So we took them off.)
You can paint or stain the bed risers to match your bed or room, I just put wood restorer on the wood to help enhance the natural look of the wood.
We also added some carpet on the head of the bed frame to keep it from scratching the wall.
The space from the floor to my bed frame is 12 1/2 inches with the new bed risers.
With the risers on the bed, I am able to store at least 6 of these containers under the bed. There is still space left to put other things.
I made up labels using Better Homes and Garden storage labels. Gohereto make your own labels.
Gohere to my Bedroom Closet Organization post to see a step by step tutorial.
It is so nice to neatly store things under a bed, yet have the bed look as if nothing is hiding under it.
So if you need to find more storage space, why not look under the bed. You can make sturdy bed risers the length you desire to give you the storage needed.
Blessings,

We did something similar while we were living at my parent's house. Three people in one bedroom was just too many to ignore the under-the-bed storage space. I love your take on the project. Awesome tutorial too!
