Scripture to Live By:
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in
him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether
thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created
through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold
together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the
firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the
supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and
through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without
blemish and free from accusation—if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from
the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that
has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have
become a servant.
Colossians 1:15-23
Home Improvement Post:
We have looked at entertainment centers for quite some time. We wanted it to match our dining room table and our coffee table and end table. But the ones we saw were more money than we wanted to spend on it. So we decided to make one our self. We went to Lowe’s and looked at their Red Oak unfinished wall cabinets. We purchased two thirty by thirty six inch wall cabinets and one twelve by thirty six inch wall cabinet. We also purchase all the trimming we would need.
When we got them home we began the work to make our entertainment center.
We first removed the doors and the hardware.
Then we sanded all the cabinets frame work and doors.
We used number 220 sand paper to do this.
After we got them all sanded we stained them using a soft rag and Golden Oak Min wax stain.
Next we removed all the hinges from frame work, then sanded and stained the frame work.
,
After the stain dried, I put the first of three coats of Minwax Polycrylic protective finish on the doors and the frame work.
When the first coat of Minwax Polycrylic protective finish dries, you lightly sand it before adding each additional coat.
Then we made a frame for the cabinets to sit on. We used 2 x 4’s to do the frame work. We made framework extend beyond the cabinet itself one and one
quarter inch around the entire perimeter of the cabinets. Then we trimmed the framework with 3/4 inch round molding. See picture below.
We then attached the cabinet to the frame work as shown in the picture.
This cabinet is 30 x 36 inches.
Next we stacked a 12 x 36 inch cabinet on top of the 30 x 36 in cabinet.
Then screw the two cabinets together.
Before the top cabinet could be added it needed to have some adjustment made on it for the television to fit in it. The center board needed to be removed. This board just screws in. So we just screwed it out. The shelf would also be removed from the center of the cabinet and later be placed higher in the cabinet to set the Dish box on. (Later we decided to do the same thing to the two lower cabinets as well. See pictures below.
Then my husband cut that center board into two pieces and added one to each side of the cabinet frame work, so that the doors would not have a gap in the middle when they were closed.
This is the top cabinet where the TV screen will go.
To make a hole for the TV box to extend out the back measurements were made on the outside of the cabinet and where the cut would be made.
A hole was cut in the back of the cabinet for the cord to the TV could go through.
Put the cabinet on top of the 12 x 36 inch cabinet and screw it down.
Put shelf up above where the TV will go and place TV and box inside the cabinet.
My husband purchased new hinges so the door on the cabinet would open up 180 degrees instead of 90 degrees so the TV could be seen from any angle in front of the TV.
My husband then decided he wanted to make all the cabinet doors and cabinets fronts look uniform, so he took out the center boards and cut them in two and attached them to the side frame work as with the top cabinet and changed the hinges on them as well.
The center section holds our VCR and DVD player.
There is room for some DVD as well as our WII and WII accessories.
So our Entertainment center is complete and it matches our coffee table and end table. It looks great in our living room and instead of costing over 1,000.00, it cost us approximately $325.
This entertainment center doors can be closed and it looks like a cabinet. I like that it looks like a piece of furniture that accentuates our living room.
If you are in need of an Entertainment Center, but do not want to spend a lot of money for it, perhaps you could do what we did, and make it yourself. We are so pleased with the way it turned out. Hope you like it as well.

I noticed you used a number of materials here. Is it still worth the price? Anyways, I don't think it still matters anymore, what's important is you have an original entertainment center, one that doesn't look like anybody else's.
We are very please with it and we think it is worth the money, time and effort we put into making it. We are very thankful for the times we can work together on projects and come up with ideas to make things special for our home. Blessings to you, have a great weekend. Thank you for your comment.
A good rack that would support the television and other things below the TV. What a good creativity and resourcefulness it is. I wish I could do such work like that also. Thanks sharing this article to us.
Most likely you could do it if we could. I am so thankful for it. Thank you for taking the time to comment and for the encouragement of it. Blessings.
