Scripture to Live By:
Today we celebrate Veteran’s Day. I am so very thankful for each and everyone of our servicemen and women who give their lives daily to secure our freedom. Some of these servicemen and women were faithful even unto death. What a sacrifice they made for people they didn’t even know, to secure our country for us and our children. We owe a debt to them to live our lives in a manner that would honor their sacrifice for us.
God’s Son, Jesus Christ, sacrificed His life to give us freedom from our sin. He paid a debt, He did not owe. A debt we could not pay and and still live. He gives us His gift of eternal life. He removes the guilt and penalty of our sin.
Ephesians 2:8.9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”
We become soldiers in the Lord’s Army. We are to be good soldiers in the family of God according to 2 Timothy 2;3,4 which says, “Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer.” Jesus is our commanding officer and we should live our lives to honor and please Him in all we do.
Home Decorating Post:
I was given a hospital table. I thought some day it might come in handy. But for now, I needed some place to store. I decided to “store” it as a table in the foyer of our home, but I wanted to disguise it’s identity. So I decided to make a table covering for it. You can make a tablecloth for any of your rectangle or square tables by using the measurement formula I am using in steps one through three.
Here is how I did it:
Step One: Measure the height of the table from the floor to the top of the table and multiply that measurement by 2, as shown:
Step Two: Measure the width of the table top and add the measurement to your total you got from first measurement. That gives you the length of the material you will need. add 2 more inches for hem. (that will be one inch for each end)
Step Three: Measure the depth of the table top, then add the first measurement in step one to it as well.
The measurements will give you the amount of material both in length and width that you will need.
For the tablecloth I am making, I needed 90 inches of material in length and 75 inches of material in width, this amount included 1 inch hem all the way around.) Every table will vary according to measurements.
The material I bought is 55 inches wide so I needed to add 20 inches x 90 inches to the width of the material in order to have a tablecloth 90 inches x 75 inches.
After measuring the material, I folded it twice lenthwise, to be able to use
my cutting board and cut it straight.
Next, I spread the material out on the floor, with the wrong side facing up, and then laid a table cloth on top of it that had circular edges to use as a pattern to cut my edges of the material circular.
See picture below.
I used a pencil to trace around it.
Then I cut the excess material off where I had drawn the line.
Next, I took what I cut off and used it as my pattern to cut off each corner,
so each corner would be the same.
After I got the material cut, I serged all the raw edges with my serger.
(If you do not have a serger you can zig zag the raw edges on your sewing machine.)
Next, I measured, turned up and pinned 1 inch of material.
(Turn the right side of the material to the wrong side for your hem.)
Using a steam iron, press the turned up hem flat. (Leave pins in material.)
Sew hem removing pins as you go.
Now it is ready to display on the table.
Add a few touches to the wall and the table.
Now I have an inviting foyer as you enter my home from the sun room.
No one will ever know that this table is a hospital table that I am hiding under the tablecloth, except me and you. But I am sure you won’t tell anyone. Hope you like it, I do.
Blessing,

Nice tutorial! I've been working on some smaller table clothes. I have always used a folded hem, but the serged hem looks much quicker. Blessings to you!
