Scripture to Live By:
“But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him, if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.”
Deuteronomy 4:29
God was telling Israel that he was going to scatter them among the nations but if they would seek Him from wherever they were that they would find Him, if they would seek Him with all their heart and with all their soul. That was not only true of Israel but it is also true of us today.
There are benefits, and blessings in seeking the Lord with all your heart.
- You can rejoice in the Lord, because you are at peace with Him and you have His peace within.
- You get a response from the Lord according to this verse, He will be found.
- Restored fellowship with God
- The Lord gives rest to your soul. Nothing between you and your Savior.
Seeking the Lord is a choice, have you made that choice?
Recipe Post:
Measure out the following:
1 cup of brown sugar
1 cup of white sugar
3/4 cup of peanut butter
3/4 cup of margarine or butter
Put in mixing bowl and blend at medium speed until creamy.
Add :
3 eggs (one at a time)
2 teaspoons of vanilla
4 teaspoons of baking powder
1 1/4 teaspoons of salt. Blend well.
Then blend in 4 and 1/2 cups of flour
(1 cup of flour at a time)
Mix well and then make into a ball.
Take off 1/3 off the ball and add 5 tablespoons of cocoa with it to make the chocolate part of the owl. Blend well.
Roll out the chocolate cookie dough into a log that is 20 inches long.
Make the vanilla dough into a log and then flatten it out into a 4 inch by 20 inch long rectangle.
Lay the chocolate cookie dough in the center of the vanilla dough and wrap the vanilla dough around the chocolate dough.
Then roll the dough on the counter gentle until it is rounded and smooth.
Cut into2 section. Work with one section at a time.
Cut in 1/8 to 1/4 inch slices.
Take two slices and lay them side by side on cookie sheet. (place them tightly together).
Pinch the top corners to form the ears of the owl.
You will need a can of cashew nuts to use for the beak of the owl.
Put a cashew in the center of the two cookies to form the beak.
For the owl’s eyes. You will need 4 ounces of cream cheese. I put the cream cheese in a pastry bag and use a # 3 tube to put a dot for the white of the eye.
You will need a bag of chocolate chip for the pupil of the eye. Place one chocolate chip on the dot of cream cheese and press down gently.
Bake in preheated oven at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Remove from heat and cool on rack.
Serve individually or on a serving tray. Make 3 dozens.
A friend of mine gave me this recipe several years ago. I have adapted it, somewhat, over the years. I think these Hoot Owl cookies are adorable. I made them for my daughter’s Open House when she graduated from high school and they were a big hit, both with adults and children alike. My grandchildren are visiting this week and so I decided to make them for them to enjoy. This time of the year is the perfect time to make them. Why not make them for you family and friends this fall?
Hope you like them.
I received a comment from Rebecca, saying that the original cookie was made by her mother and that she received second runner up in a Pillsbury bake off. She included this link to the comment. http://food.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474977852371
Thanks again Rebecca for letting me know.
Blessings,

Just in case someone asks – these also work well made with gluten free flour mix. My daughter and grand-daughter have gluten intolerance, and so I made them (like everything I make for them) with my fave gluten-free flour mix (from Williams Sonoma. It's wonderful!) They turned out perfect, tasted delicious and made for some awesome comments. My grandbaby kept wanting to wear them as a mask. She loves birds, so these were a great hit. Thanks for sharing your creativity with us all.
Jo-Ann says
So glad to here that they work well with gluten flower. So glad they turned out well for you and to hear that your grandbaby wanted to wear them as a mask. That is so cute. Thank you for your comment, I so appreciated it. Blessings to you, Jo-Ann

YES! We have made that decision. Yesterday in the James River (that being the COLD river) my husband, two boys and myself were fully immersed! Everyone was sprinkled as infants so the boys surprised me with plans to be baptized at the church picnic by the river, unbeknownst to me! What a great surprise! AND I'm gonna make these cookies tomorrow night when my fast is over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you so much for sharing what God is doing in your lives and the decision your family has made. Such a blessing. Hope your family likes the cookies. Blessings to you, Jo-Ann

we made owl cupcakes and used reeses minis (like you get in a stocking)-gently cut them in half so all the scallops were in tact and used hos for eyes. but these will be making an appearance in the next week or so!!!
