Scripture to Live By:
Titus 2:3 -5
The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
She watches- over the ways of her household,
And does not eat the bread of idleness. Proverbs 31:27
Organizational Post:
Our home is like a vacation spot for family and friends. It is located on the banks of a river and the children as well as the adults enjoy the river, swimming, boating, tubing, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. We also have a hot tub, so when our family and friends get together for a week at our house, we use lots of towels, as you can imagine.
My linen closet held not only towels but some blankets as well as toiletries. It was over stuffed and disorganized. (A real mess.) I knew I needed to do something to help this situation.
I asked my husband to build additional shelves. In order for him to do so, I had to remove everything out of the closet.
My husband used lumber and pieces of shelving board that we had on hand. I always enjoy doing projects that cost very little by using things we have on hand.
These board needed to be painted to match the inside of the closet.
The boards in the picture are there to be able to level the shelf placement.
These board are white laminated. They were left over from another project.
We measured and cut them to size, and put in the closet as seen below.
Below is a picture of the completed closet, before the organization began.
My method of organizing has always been to remove every thing out of what I am going to organize, then I sort matching items together. For example: I fold all towels in the same way, sort them by color and size of towels. After sorting, and organizing I began to arrange on shelves. I put the darker colors of towels on the lower shelves and the lighter colors of towels on the shelves above.
The top shelf of linens consists of hand towels and wash clothes.
As you can see, if you look closely, there is a row of towels behind the front rows of towels. The added shelves are sufficient for the large amount of towels. I am so thankful for them.
For small things, I like to use plastic shoe boxes to organize. For this linen closet I purchased 12 plastic shoe boxes with lids. ( $1 each) I sorted the items by kinds and set them aside to store in the boxes.
Better Homes and Gardens has printable labels, so I took advantage of them, to label each container.
If you would like to view the site click here. The labels I used had eight labels to each page.
I used my Xyron machine to laminate the labels.
I then cut them into individual labels.
I used a paper punch to put two holes in each label to run a ribbon through,
so I could attach the label to the container.
After punching the holes in the labels, I measured the holes on the labels and marked them on the plastic shoe boxes and used a drill to put the holes in the boxes as seen below.
I measured the ribbon (approximately 8 inches) and put it through the holes from the inside outward. The ribbon is used to tie the labels on. If you decide to use the box for something else, just take the label off and replace it with another label.
Now you are ready to fill your containers and store them in your closet.
My organized linen closet.
I am glad to get this closet organized. It looks so much nicer and I am able to find things immediately with the labeled shoe boxes. I am working on being a better keeper of our home and getting things organized is a part of that challenge.
Blessings,
