Scripture to Live By:
What is kindness? According to Wikipedia, Kindness is the act or the state of being kind, being marked by good and charitable behavior, pleasant disposition, and concern for others. It is known as a virtue and recognized as a value in many cultures and religions. Research has shown that acts of kindness does not only benefit receivers of the kind act, but also the giver, as a result of the release of neurotransmitters responsible for feelings of contentment and relaxation when such acts are committed.
A man who is kind benefits himself, but a cruel man hurts
himself. Proverbs 11:17
She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. Proverbs 31:26
But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. Luke 6:35
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:10
Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32
Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved,
compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, Colossians 3:12
These are just a few places in the Scriptures that speak of kindness, there are many more. God is pretty specific that we need to show kindness to one another, especially to those who are of the household of faith, but not limited to them. We are to demonstrate kindness with all people. As Christians, we should be especially kind to little ones, whom God has placed in our care. We need to be good ambassadors for Christ and represent Him well. May God teach us to be kind and may we strive to honor and please God by the way we communicate kindness to one another.
What is cooking in my kitchen? With the leaves changing colors and falling to the ground we are beginning to see signs of fall changes and the temperatures are starting to go down further on the thermometer, almost daily. I start thinking more of making soups and stews and goulash. One of my favorites is Mexican Goulash. I made a big pot of it today and it was so good. It warmed my insides and made me think of the days ahead when the snow would start to fall and how good it will be to sit by the fire and enjoy both the warmth of the fire and this delicious goulash. So I thought I would share my recipe with you. It is easy to make and I think you will like it.
The prep time for the recipe is short because a lot of the prep time is simply opening cans.
The work is just peeling four potatoes, cooking one cup of macaroni and cooking your meat (if you use meat). The rest is simply adding spices.
Here is what you will need to make it:
2 cans of green beans
2 cans of kidney beans
2 cans of corn
1 pound of ground beef or ground chicken (make your own ground chicken here.) Meat is Optional.
4 large potatoes or 6 small
1 can of Great Value (Walmart brand) White Corn & Black Bean salsa
1 can of Ro-tel diced tomatoes & green chilies (Optional-we like it spicy)
1 jar of Ragu Spaghetti sauce
1/2 tablespoon of cumin seasoning (optional – makes it more spicy)
1 package of taco seasoning or 1 tablespoon of taco seasoning
1/3 cup of minced onion flakes
1 cup of whole wheat macaroni (cooked)
Cook your meat.
Dice and cook potatoes (salt water)
Cook one cup of macaroni
Open all cans of vegetables
Add all ingredients in a large pot
Cook on medium until it comes to a boil then lower to simmer for 30 minutes.
Serve in soup bowl.
Add Doritos around the bowl.
Ready to serve. Yummy!
This is a delicious meal anytime, but especially on days when the temperatures are falling and it is just good to be indoors. Why not try it and see for yourself?
