“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16
This Sunday we will celebrate Easter. Other than Christmas, Easter is my most meaningful holiday.
You might ask me why, and I would tell you that at Christmas, God reached down in love to present His Son to the world, as His love gift to us. At Easter, we celebrate God proving His love to us, by letting His Son die on the cross for our sins.
God’s word tells us that all are in need of a Savior.
Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners Christ died for us.”
Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.”
What gift does Christ offer to us?
According to the scriptures, found in the book of 1 Corinthians 15:3,4, we read, “For what I received I pass on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.”
These verses are what we call, “the gospel”, or the good news of God’s love to us. And it definitely is good news to me.
The book of Ephesians chapter 2:8, 9 tells us that, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith= and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God= Not by works, so that no one can boast.
Some do not believe Jesus died and others do not believe He rose from the grave. The scriptures tell us in 1 Corinthians 15:17 “and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.”
I do not want my sin to separate me from God. I believe the account that is given in the Bible and have accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior.
I made this cake to celebrate His resurrection this Sunday.
I started with choosing my husband’s favorite flavor, which is spice.
Here is how I made it and you can too.
First, grease and flour two round cake pans.
Next, mix up the cake mix by following the directions on the box. The spice cake mix I used said to mix:
3 eggs
1/3 cup oil
1 1/3 cup of water
Put equal parts of the batter in each pan.
Bake at 350 until golden brown, and the top is firm when patted. Remove from oven and let cool for approximately five minutes in pans.
Next, cut off the raised top of the cake to level it. Cool in pans another five minutes then turn out of pans onto a cooling rack and cool completely.
While the cake is cooling, make your frosting. I have included my recipe, but you can use whatever you choose.
My frosting recipe is as follows:
4 cups powdered sugar
2 sticks margarine
1 cup of Crisco
2 teaspoons of vanilla
1/3 cup evaporated milk
Beat at high speed with mixer for approximately 10 minutes.
Next I begin to assemble the cake. Place the cut side of your cake layer down on your cake dish.
Spread frosting on top of that layer. Then put the next layer on top of it, cut side down, and seal the cake with frosting, until you are ready to do the design work.
For my design work, I chose a white chocolate cross and Marshmallow Poles, I purchased at the Dollar Store. I used the Marshmallow Poles as my borders.
Coloring my frosting pastel colors of pink, yellow and green was the next step. I made some little flowers that resemble daisies, using a Wilton bag and rose tube number 103, a leaf tube number 67 and a piping tube number 3. You could also use a star tube number 14,15, or 16 to make a small border underneath the Marshmallow Poles borders.
My frosting is soft, so when I make flowers I put them in the freezer to get hard and put them on the cake right from the freezer, one at a time so they don’t get soft before I use them.
I then put the cross on top of the cake using a craft stick behind it to support it. Then I added some flowers around the base of the cross.
To finish it off, I used black frosting and the number 3 piping tube to write, “He is Risen”.
The cake is finished and I am ready to celebrate my Lord’s resurrection, will you join me?
Blessings,
