DIY Curtain Rod & Holder

I have learned that most of the conflict comes from not getting what we want.  Our focus become ourselves and then we become disgruntled toward those that are not giving us what we think we should have.  This ranges in all areas of our lives not just the material, but also in relationships with our mates, our children, our extended families, our friends, neighbors, our church.  It is also shown in business, shopping and the list could go on and on.  God’s Word says quarrels and fighting comes basically not getting our own way.  If when we are in the midst of quarrel if we would just stop and say to ourselves, ”  What is the problem here, why am I so upset?  Is the answer, I am not getting what I want.  Then if I really want to solve conflict, I must change my focus from myself to God and how can I please Him in the circumstances I find myself in. 

Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.  Commit your way unto the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.     Psalms 37:4-6

 I must take delight in the Lord, I must commit my way unto him and trust in Him to give me the very desires of my heart.  I want to desire the things that will honor and please Him even in my responses to the desires of my heart.  If my desire is to honor and please Him more than myself, then He will bring about what He deems best, I can trust Him to do this.

 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him,(bring Him into the situation) and he will make straight your paths.

Home Decorating Post:

We have a sun room in our home, with windows all around.  The sunlight is wonderful coming through those windows, and we enjoy it immensely. It is, also, wonderful to sit out there in the evening and enjoy the moon and the stars and the aircraft that is filling the sky.  Yet at times I like to close out the the world around and have some privacy. Especially if a lot of people are on the river. We decided that we would  like to hang some sheer curtains in this rooms to let the sun in but, also give us a little more privacy.

We went shopping and priced rods and hangers to hang curtains on and it was quite expensive, around $40.00 to $50.00 for each rod and yet they were not long enough for our windows. So we decided to make our own.  We knew we could make them the length we need, for a fraction of the cost.

Doing it ourselves saved us at least $150.00 dollars on the rods and hangers alone.

Here is what we did and you can do it to :

We used some wood pieces, we had on hand, to make the hangers.  The size we started with was 2 3/4 inch wide x 25 inches long.  The wood was  white pine boards, but any kind would do.

Mark off eight 3″ long pieces with a pencil.

Then set the paint can on the bottom line of your 3″ square at one side and then then the other side  as shown above and mark around the can to get the rounded bottom

Then using a protractor make your little circle 1/2 inch from the top line as seen in the picture above.

Then drill the holes where you made your markings with a 3/4 inch drill bit or hole saw.

The hole is drilled slightly larger than the rod which is 1/2 inch electrical conduit.

Using a mitre saw cut the board into the eight hangers.

Trim the corners off using the mitre saw.

Using a belt sander, sand the bottom edge rounding and smoothing.

To make the top edge open.  Take a hack saw and cut the open where the hole was to look like a horse shoe where the rod will fit into.

Lay out for the screw holes by coming down from the top edge 2 inches and coming in 3/4 ” from the side to drill your holes.  Then counter sink the hole so the screw head will be below the surface, as shown below.

Then take the hanger and place it on the top of the window seal corner where the hanger will go and use it as your guide for drilling the holes in the wall as seen here.

Sand smooth and paint.

We used spray paint.  

We purchased four 10 ft lengths of 1/2 inch galvanized electric conduit.  The cost of it was $2.14 a piece.  We purchased 4 pieces, totaling $8.56.

We painted the conduit white using spray paint.

After the hangers were made we laid the conduit  pipes out between our brick pillars to spray paint them.

Each of the windows in the Sun Room are 9 foot wide.  The conduit was 10 foot long, so we needed to cut a foot off each piece of conduit.

We used a tubing cutter to cut the conduit.

Now we are ready to hang our curtains on our new rods and hangers.  

Hang one of the hangers for each window, as shown below.  

 

Then place curtains on the rod.

 Hang the rod in the one hanger that is mounted and then put the rod in the other hanger and then screw it to the wall as shown below.

 We really like the way these turned out and the cost for all four rods and hangers was approximately $10.00.
